The first of the early recognized professional hockey leagues in North America was the Eastern Professional Hockey League of 1914. A short lived league but set the way for officially recognizing professional hockey players..
Eastern Professional Hockey League (1914-15)
The Eastern Professional Hockey League (1914-15) was formed from the remainder of the Maritime Professional Hockey League (1912-1914) teams. It was a three team league that operated for only part of the 1914-15 season. The teams in the league were the Glace Bay Miners, North Glasgow Black Foxes and Sydney Millionaires. The Black Foxes folded in January 1915 and the league folded the next month.
